Drone shows in India

Drone shows are a night-time event format in which lit drones draw a shape or sequence above a crowd. In India the format is planned directly with specialist swarm operators, usually paired with a venue, a film crew and an anchor date weeks ahead.

AdChowk does not list drone shows

Genuinely available in India today, but as a specialist event service rather than bookable media. A small number of operators nationally have the fleet size and permission record to run a branded show. For Hyderabad the airspace zone has to be checked per venue rather than assumed: the city has two civil airports (Rajiv Gandhi International at Shamshabad and Begumpet) and two military airfields inside the same footprint — Hakimpet Air Force Station and the Air Force Academy at Dundigal. AdChowk holds no drone inventory and does not operate drones. This page is here because the question is a real one and a page that answers it honestly is more use than no page. How it is actually bought

Buying drone shows

Booked directly from a swarm-drone show operator or through an event/experiential agency, usually as a single-event turnkey quote covering drones, pilots, choreography, insurance and permission filing. It is not bought as a rate-card media slot and there is no per-site pricing the way a hoarding has. Brands typically pair it with a venue, an anchor event date and a film crew, and the permission process means it is committed weeks ahead rather than booked short-notice.

  1. Number of drones in the fleet

the single biggest driver, since each unit is a piece of hardware plus a share of the ground crew

  2. Show duration and the number of distinct animated formations to be choreographed

  3. Whether the venue's airspace is a green, yellow or red zone on the DGCA airspace map

yellow and red add filing time and can add cost or kill the date

  4. Distance the fleet has to be transported from the operator's base, plus crew travel and stay

What drives the cost

No rupee figures here, because AdChowk does not sell this format and quoting a price it cannot honour would be made up. These are the things that move a quote.

Where the rules stand

Drone flight in India is governed by the Drone Rules, 2021 (Ministry of Civil Aviation). A drone needs a Unique Identification Number obtained through the Digital Sky platform, the model needs a type certificate, and commercial operation needs a Remote Pilot Certificate. Digital Sky's airspace map divides the country into green, yellow and red zones. In a green zone, flight up to 400 ft needs no prior flight permission; in the 8-12 km band measured from an airport perimeter the green-zone ceiling drops to 200 ft. A yellow zone — broadly the airspace within 12 km of an airport perimeter, and other controlled airspace — needs air traffic control permission. A red zone needs central government permission.

That is the easy part. A drone show is a night operation flying a swarm near or above an assembly of people, and that is the constrained part: such shows have in practice needed case-specific DGCA approval or exemption alongside local police and district administration permission for the ground event. We are not certain of the current standing conditions for night and over-crowd swarm flight, so treat this as orientation and check the venue on Digital Sky before any date is promised.

Airspace by locality

Whether a drone show is possible at all depends on how close the venue is to an airfield, and across Hyderabad that varies from under 4 km to over 30 km. Each locality below has its own reading.
